The Los Angeles Dodgers were 1.5 games ahead of the San Francisco Giants going into the last game of a 3-day series at Candlestick Park. Not only is August 22nd the birthday of Red Sox immortal Carl Yastrzemski, but it also marks the anniversaries of the famous Juan Marichal-John Roseboro fight, Nolan Ryan’s 5000th strikeout and the Texas Rangers’ record setting 30-3 beating of the Baltimore Orioles.
